Welcome to adorned homes! I’m thrilled you’re here!
I’m Katie Kurtz, Realtor at Keller Williams Integrity Lakes & owner of K. Kurtz Real Estate | Renovation.
Design has always been a huge part of my life. Real estate & interior design, in particular, have been my main interest and now career. I think a person’s surroundings are the basis of how people feel in their daily lives which has driven me to pursue my career in real estate and renovation. I have been able to travel around the world and had the wonderful opportunity to see different architecture and how other people live(not always luxurious). Which has made me realize how lucky we Americans are, we have the world at our finger tips! There are thousands of design options out there for people to create a home they love. From home decor stores, hardware stores, department stores, internet……….the options are endless! Most people just need a little guidance in order to make their vision a reality!
From a young age, maybe even before I was born, I was hard wired to thrive on creativity. My parents built and designed EVERYTHING themselves. My mom tiled, wallpapered, painted, reupholstered, and landscaped her way through life carrying my brothers and me into future careers in design. My brother, Jamie, works in carpentry & furniture design. The other, Brent, is a design engineer. My dad (who can build and fix anything) paved the way for my “do it yourself” mentality.
I always knew my future husband would be somewhat of a handyman(for lack of a better term……I believe “handyman ” downplays the level of skill and expertise)! Though I didn’t know it at the time, I met my future husband in grade school. Our relationship began in the summer of 2003, before my second year of college at the University of MN Duluth. We were married 5 years later. Dan is the epitome of my “handyman” ideal. Quiet, humble, and very good with his hands! He is a Master Plumber and works for his dads company, Glacier Plumbing. He has been my partner in crime in renovating houses since we were the young age of 22.
For the last 10 years Dan and I have been purchasing and remodeling homes, doing the work almost primarily on our own. Following in my parents foot steps, I have spent the majority of those 9 years tearing out carpet, painting, tiling, and working hard! Somewhere I found time to go to school for Kitchen & Bath Design and get my Real Estate license. Between Dan’s expertise in construction and my expertise in design & sales we have been able to produce high quality homes and measurable profits! This all led to us competing on the FYI Networks featured renovation show Rowhouse Showdown, hosted by tv personality and carpenter, Carter Oosterhouse!
There is no instant gratification but the end result is a feeling of accomplishment that is hard to find. Watching your old, outdated house turn beautiful is one of the most rewarding feelings I have had thus far in my life. Most of you can relate to this feeling of accomplishment to some degree. Even a project as small as painting a room can be extremely rewarding if you love it! For those of you who have painted a room and thought “Oh nooo, I hate it!” this blog is for you!
I hope you can use my expertise, stories and photos to help your design and real estate endeavors to be everything you imagined!
As seen on FYI Networks “Rowhouse Showdown”. Competitor, renovation expert and designer.
